Two Heads Are Better Than One

WPM Flare Stack Temperature MonitoringOne of the main edicts of the New York-based Dover Corporation is for the entities that it owns to find synergies amongst themselves and then work together to streamline their respective operations, all in the name of the greater good. Ferguson Beauregard has done just that with Theta Oilfield Services, Inc., La Habra, CA, another member of the Energy Products Group within the Dover Fluid Management market segment.

Founded in 1989 as Theta Enterprises, Inc., Theta Oilfield Services was acquired by Dover in 2007 and is a recognized leader in producing rod-pumping optimization software and training. In its 20 years, Theta has set the standard in developing diagnostic, design, pumping-unit balancing and dynamometer-data-measurement software that is used by many different oil companies, service companies and rod-pumping equipment suppliers.

To take advantage of Theta's expertise, Ferguson Beauregard has been testing the use of Theta-developed software into the operation of its Remote Terminal Units (RTU), which are attached to plunger-lift systems at the wellhead and used to remotely monitor well operations and production.

“We have been able to get Theta into a position where they can pull our data out of the RTU,” explained Dustin Sandidge, District Manager-Western Region for Ferguson Beauregard. “We provide the hardware and the field support and Theta now has an extremely good product on the software end that allows our customers to post their own data, pull their own data and take more ownership of it.”

Field testing of the reconfigured RTUs has been aided by one of our customers located in Albany, KY. The customer is an independent oil-and-gas exploration, development and operating company that drills oil and gas wells in pre-existing oil and gas fields with proven reserves.

Per Sandidge, “With the new RTUs, we can run information for our customer for both oil and gas wells through the same field system, whereas we only used to be able to provide information for gas wells. This has been a real good partnership with Theta, so far. It always helps to be able to pull resources from different industries and companies.”
